so - it's been a while. way too long. but that's how things go when touring northern canada. we're back in the mid south now and this week has been a busy week of shows. sunday i saw coldplay, tuesday david went to atlanta to see paul mccartney and scott and i were just at keane.
keane and coldplay were both great shows. coldplay was a top level rock show. highlights were when they covered ring of fire and the last song of the night - fix you. keane left everything they could give on stage. awesome.
i have a few observations from both shows:
-white accessories seem to be the latest stage trend.
-both bands seemed like normal guys just trying to make great music and were really appreciative of their audiences.
-if there weren't already enough good reasons to not drink too much, i have another. camera phones capable of video. there was a guy with a few too many in him 2 rows up from me thinking he was the lead singer of keane - air mic and all. then there were the 2 dudes 1 row up from me capturing it all on their phones all the while cracking up. i found the whole thing quite amusing myself.

introducing liliana. the latest addition to the lux liner family. she's 9 months old and was welcomed home last week. she's a little sweetie and we are super happy to all be united as a family back in the u.s.
ethan's doing great as a big brother and the other day even did an impression of scott. he said, "hey look,i'm scooter!"

evening. long time no speak. hope y'all are doing well. things are going good in nashville from where i sit. the weather has been superb this week. we've been working on the album again. i think we're really gonna just finish it this time. scott's lawn service, atlas lawn care, mowed my lawn yesterday. they do a great job. larry text messaged me from germany the other morning at 4AM. thanks for the wake up call, larry! he's got a little surprise for everyone when he gets back in town.

i just got back from a chris thile solo show at bongo after hours. absolutley amazing. he and his mandolin. no microphones. maybe 100 people crammed into a tiny tiny living room. glen phillips from toad the wet sprocket got up and played some songs. it was a top five amazing musical moment in nashville for me.

here are some other things that are knocking my socks off right now. maggie moo's udderly cream milkshakes, tim bluhm's new album, fish tacos, nashville film festival, searching for god knows what, feist, mashups, and npr.

happy st. patrick's day! blimey! big irish props to u2 for the hall of fame induction and for bono and his wife's new line of clothing, edun, based on fair wage practices. now if only their clothing mogul hip hop counterparts would follow suit- or follow with suits.
in liner related news, we played a show last week. a couple actually. a hardy thanks to keith from hail to the keith for filling in for me on friday. i heard it was awesome! i was in kazakhstan for nearly a month adopting a sweet baby girl. more info on that once it's final. saturday's show was good too. peeps in the crowd said we had more energy than ever. it was nice to win again.
dd has been busy with the foxymorons lately. their album drops 22 march and is awesome.
we're also still working on finishing our album which is taking longer than anticipated, but the end result will be worth it. stay tuned!
oh - and good luck on your brackets for march madness. anyone in nashville have tickets? go oakland and oklahoma!!!

i know we've been overly quiet here, but it's not because we don't love you. it's because we're hard at work. tracking is nearing completion and mixing has begun on some of the songs. i'm loving it.
i'm also loving my g5 imac, u2 ipod and itunes in general. someday maybe apple will want to help us out a little. my latest downloads were kids songs by some of our favorites around here. butterfly boucher, sarah mclachlan, guster, david mead and a new one to us that we're all really liking - paper moon.

i'm excited about two albums coming out this fall from two of my faves - u2 and the choir.

recording is still going well. we're having lots of fun getting good parts, good sounds, collaborating over the internet, editing and just hanging out while working together. there is a great feel to this project. can't wait for your to hear it.

howdy. it sure is purty in tennessee this summer. how are things in your neck of the woods?

we've been getting together every wednesday night to work on the album. seems like we're just working on one song a week. recording parts. erasing parts. adding funky little noises. it's been fun but it sure takes a long time when you don't have a studio time clock ticking away in the background. we don't really have a deadline but we're hoping to have all of the recording done sometime before 2005. i know, i know, that's a long time from now. wish us luck.

scott's playing in nashville next week with trevor morgan. they're opening for one of my favorite artists, john davis, of superdrag. go scott!

i've been into the tour de france lately. i think it's in anticipation for the olympics. pretty cool stuff. the french country side looks so cool. i want to go to brittney (sp?) and the isle of jersey.

thanks to everyone that went to the solo show. it was fun to play with sean. his new songs were knocking me out. i sorta felt dumb being up on stage smiling like an idiot as i listened to his songs. i can't help it though, his songs make me smile.

i was loving the laid back vibe of springwater. no cover. lots of chairs. crummy sound system. two really bright stage lights. good friends.

larry and scott will be playing with trevor morgan next week. man, i wish i could see that show.

on a happier note: this week marks the beginning of sesame street's 35th anniversary and the lux liners are pleased to report that none of us were close to being around when it debuted. can you imagine if it were created today, it would most likely be a reality show. survivor sesame street. or sesame street idol.

if you haven't heard... the latest thing these days is mp3 blogs. kids post daily blogs, just like the liners (HA!), but they're only talking about music and they give you a link to an mp3 of the song they're talking about. i've been exposed a bunch of good (and bad) stuff in the last couple months while surfing these sites. today was a really good day though. two sites posted links to unreleased wilco songs. yeah!

well, unless you read our news page yesterday, you probably missed hearing our song on tv last night. that's right, we were on network television last night. our song, dreaming, was on the wb's one tree hill. i set my vcr and recorded the whole show. the good news is that they play a repeat of the show on sunday so you can watch it then. i'll even be nice and tell you that it plays around minute 45 of the show. i had to sit through the entire show waiting for it to play. so that's the latest luxury news. it was really fun to be a part of and i hope it happens again. i'm hoping for alias or csi:miami next.

well our first show of 2004 was a good one. rich and mindy have to be the nicest people we've ever shared a stage with. thanks guys. and the crowd was good too. and scott overcame 5 losses to the stage at the sutler just like the titans over the ravens. and the weather was amazing. and before the set we played a bunch of pool (i'm officially the worst lux liner pool player) and...just kidding.

this is an exciting time: work will begin again on the new album, new songs will continue to be debuted, we're pondering learning a julie miller song and it's time for the north american international auto show in detroit. a chance to see the cool new cars coming out soon that we'll be able to afford in 10 years when they're used.

the mars rover stuff is pretty darn nifty.

if you're not doing anything tuesday night (1/13) in nashville, go to this. it'll help out a great family and it'll be some good tunage as well.

well we had a goodtime playing the billy block show last night. i had some amp trouble but i'm not gonna talk about that. nope. it was fun being on the big exit/in stage and having the ever-friendly billy block introduce us. scooter was looking like ringo up on the big exit/in drum riser. larry didn't have lux liner ted with him but his rocking capabilities were still in full gear. our pal zach did a great job adding some color and fun to the set for us. we heard a girl called heather newcomer do a cool acoustic version of tom petty's american girl.

this friday we're playing a short acoustic opening set for scott's wife charlynn. then scott and i are going to play in her backing band. if anyone would like to come out and see us it's at a cool place in downtown franklin called franklin mercantile. that's all for now. bye.

what a great weekend! we drove all night thursday, got 4 hours of sleep - went to the radio show. played when they came in from commercials, drove to the gig, went out to eat, slept, got up, went to canada, played another gig, slept and drove home. it was full on rock lux acoustic style.
the radio thing was so interesting and cool! the shows felt great as well. we brought cool music to listen to and dd and i both picked up used advance copies of butterfly boucher. what a great cd. other cool driving tunes included elliot smith, centro matic, julie miller, u2, minibar, chagall guevara, coldplay and the titans radio network.

the radio cafe show was a blast. what a cool little place. thanks for all that came out. our surpise seemed to go over well - we played our name sake song 'luxury liner'. other set highlights included the nashville debut of our new song circles. we were also honored by the presence of the katherine falk birthday party. glad y'all could make it. there were many friends from the ireland trip that were apart of that as well. coolness. we're looking forward to the detroit trip this weekend. we're going to rock detroit rock city like it's never known and maybe even make a trip across the border.

we just got back from our south carolina trip and had a great time. i cannot tell you how cool it is to have friendly faces come back to see you - and this time they knew some of the words to our tunes! awesome. the set felt good and we debuted two songs - circles and still in love. we tried to go see a new exhibit at the columbia museum of art, but someone was having their wedding there and didn't want three road weary looking rockers milling about.

driving tunes included:
the pernice brothers, circa '88 michael w. smith, buddy and julie miller, paul mcnartney's greatest hit(s), the mother hips, evan dando, wilco, matchbox 20 and patty griffin.

for the detroit trip we're all going to make jam box style 'mix tapes'. we'll have to post those for sure.
for some reason i kept asking david and scott all these crazy questions like their favorites (colors, movies, actresses...) cars they would buy and most influential cd's - that's what started the mix tape idea.
oh - and for those who know and care - i won the coin toss.

holy moly! last night marked a milestone in my life. i met one of my rock n roll heroes. that's right children. gather around for a little story.

so, there i was sitting at my wife's desk paying the monthly bills. it was 10:05 in the pm on a cool, tennessee night. the local news was on the tele and charlynn calls out, "come see this thing on tv about KISS." as you can imagine, i leaped from my chair and scurried into the living room hoping to catch a glimpse of the greatest rock band ever. (the nite before the KISS/aerosmith show was in town, but we got stuck in the concert traffic and couldn't get tix.) so, the news was doing this story about gene simmons' new book. Gene was at the west end borders books location signing stuff. whoever gets to borders before they close at 11:00pm can meet Gene. it was on! we put on our clothes, jumped in the car, and did 90mph in order to get to our destination. we stopped for AA batteries (for the digi camera) and a disposable camera as a backup. the cashier at the little gas station wanted to make small talk about the nice weather, but i had to go and i had to go now! sorry dude! so, we get to borders, purchase the new book, and we get in line. this was amazing! there were probably 100 people ahead of us. they are all wearing KISS t-shirts or holding KISS memorabilia. people of all ages, races, and creeds all united at a bookstore to meet Gene. we met one girl who has a boyfriend in the military. he loves KISS, but he is in iraq right now. she was meeting Gene and showing him pictures of her boyfriend as he serves the great USA. crazy!

so, we wait in line for about 1 hour. then it is my turn. i was really nervous! i have the book to be signed, i have 1 copy of the lux liners overbored cd that i want him to sign, i want to give him a copy of the liners cd, and i want to get a picture of me and my new best friend, Gene. there was a lot to do in my 15 seconds, but i got it done.

i met Gene frickin' Simmons. check that off of my list of things to do.

the fall tv season begins today - that means a new alias on sunday. so many questions to be answered. do any of the new shows look good? or if you've seen them already - are any of the new shows good?

the recording is coming along nicely. percussion is done. nice job scooter. i have to redo some bass parts, then some tweaks and vocals and mixing. so that means - exactly - we have no idea when it will be done. we're excited and busy getting ready to play again as well.

we played two songs at 12@12th last night. the first post op performance, and it was brilliant (especially since we've only logged 30 minutes of rehearsal in the last 3 months). my arm didn't explode so you know what that means....more rock to come!!!

-we had our first post op rehearsal last night and it went pretty good. the rock will continue!
-wilco is going to be on leno tonight.

my arm is healing as expected. i have good mobility in my fingers, but not a whole lot of arm strength yet (not that there was a lot to spare to begin with). our plan is to be back up and running strong in october. in the meantime, business meetings and recording.

did larry really have surgery? this is the question i've been asking myself for a couple days now. supposedly he went under the knife on thursday morning. ha! balogna! i called on thursday morning to say "happy surgery", but according to amy he had already gone under.
i think he was watching reruns of sanford and son and didn't want to talk. anyway, he calls me back mid-afternoon and he sounds pretty darn good for someone who has just had "surgery." we talk for a few then i tell him that i'll try to come over for a visit friday.
come friday morning i remember that i have to be in court for a speeding ticket. this screws up my entire day. i have to work later than normal etc. i call larry to tell him that unfortunately, i probably can't make it over to his place. i expected his dreams to be shattered. i had pictured him being layed up in bed, suffering from unbelievable pain, and longing to see familiar faces. so i break the news that i can't come by, and he says "that's ok we're at las palmas eating anyway." i just start laughing. this guy is not in pain. but he will be after he finishes that mexican food.

but seriously, it's good to know that larry is home safe. i know we all are looking forward to the tales of the trip, but first things first.. get your butt over to dd's and finish your tracks before you're out of commission.

i made it back from Fl., and i did catch some fish, by the way. a few grouper and red snapper. it was a great experience, but i really don't like to eat fish. if anyone wants some just ask. i have pics and will try to persuade dd to post them soon.

i leave for texas this afternoon. looking forward to the show in mesquite on saturday. sounds like some friends will be there. i have a list of 40 songs for the show. i know i won't do them all but i wanted to have a big list so i wouldn't forget anything. i plan to bust out at least two new songs. maybe three. andrea will be joining me on several songs too. that'll be fun.

i bought three brand new cd's this week. everman, liz phair, and guster. plenty of new roadtrip music!

i've been loving this guster flash jukebox. i'm digging the song called "amsterdam". they have a new album coming out in a few weeks that i'll be buying. it also happens to be the same the debut everman album is released! the everboys also have a flash jukebox that lets you sample the album. good stuff. check it out.

well, we have a local ROCK show this friday night. our boy chad edgington will be in town so we asked him to sing a song with us. that should be fun. our pal the viking from new york and jj from texas will also be in town. don't worry, they didn't get the same invitation to join us on stage though.

man, i'm loving this new guster song. nashville's joe pisapia co-wrote a song on the album and has been touring with them. one more reason why i love guster.

we had a great time going to knoxville saturday. we made a little stop to check out ozone falls on the way. it was like we were in south america. then off to the show at new city cafe. a big thanks to chris and all the staff for being so cool and making amazing french fries and to ron for starting the show and bringing his ut buds. congrats to all the graduates.
driving tunes included, the jayhawks, one song by king's x, toad the wet sprocket and a band we met our first time at new city - evan set 5 - nice job guys - we dig the new stuff.

other news - there's a rumor going around that there's going to be an alias video game. that just might get me through between seasons.

man, i bought this new jayhawks album last month and i'm still loving it. it's some good stuff. great harmonies, songs, and guitar playing. they are one of my all-time favorite bands. i just had to get that off my chest. looks like they are doing some acoustic trio touring just like us. for some reason i've skipped seeing them like 5 times. i can't really explain how it happens, but i skip seeing them over and over again. maybe i don't want to be let down? who knows? who cares? only patrese.

we had a great time playing rocketown, the house and jammin java in south carolina. welcome to all the new fans. let me recap the last few days:
thursday - nashville - rocketown - great venue, awesome staff, skate park. we rocked out a short set to a crazy light show.
friday - indianapolis - the house - great venue, awesome staff, free food and hotel. it was a late, but nice acoustic set. it was cool seeing some of the people we met last time. you guys are awesome. unfortunately by the time we got to the hotel, the pool and hottub were closed.
saturday - columbia - great venue, awesome staff, awesome crowd and randy. a perfect gig to end the weekend. shout out to brett as well for bringing all the usc dudes and dudettes to the show. good luck on your finals.
sunday - drive home.
for those who know and care - david won the coin toss the first night, and scott the second. bummer for me. listening tunes included greatest hits from the cure and tom petty, u2, julie miller, verde, jetpack, kings-x, dc talk, guster, everman and a bunch of others i can't remember.

the weekend of gigs is starting soon. we're excited to play rocketown, go back to indy and play a new place in columbia, sc. first week cd sales are pretty good. hopefully we'll get some reviews soon - for added press and sales - assuming they're good. every day i think i have a new favorite song off overbored. how about you? did y'all see scott's tatoo? reason enough to make it to our next show. see ya.

the louisville show was *interesting*. they had weak power which caused equipment not to work right, no monitor for scott and we got placed in the middle of a really heavy music oriented battle of the bands - even though we were headlining. i guess we take nashville for granted. the cool thing was we watched a jr. high baseball game, ate tons of ice cream and i got to see a really good friend from high school who is a grad student in louisville. we also sold some new cds, made a few new fans and took some goofy pictures.

this week - rock show, two acoustic shows and more cd sales and promotion. if you haven't purchased a copy - you really need to. david hates paying credit card interest.

the records just arrived. all you pre-order people should be getting your copies early next week. if all goes as planned, we'll have the album posted for sale on our 'new' website tonight!

last night we jammed on three new songs in the basement. maybe we'll bust them out at our rocketown show next week. i doubt we'll want to try them this weekend in louisville. i'd say the overall tone for the new batch of songs is 'spooky'. kinda minory, kinda depressing. but hey, we've been bright and cheery for 6 years. give us a break.

we'll i just got back home from larry's parents house, after seeing them rock at the sold out starbucks show.
its been a long time since i've seen so many people all in one place grooven to the music.

we're in detroit right now. sitting on crazy light guy lee's couch surfing the web. our show last night in "wine-dot", michigan was really fun. we were the second of three bands at le jive coffee house. met some new friends and had a great time hanging with the multi-talented melanie. larry's parents put us up for the night. had some midnight apple cider and donuts before bed. this morning they served us a feast for breakfast. we're just chilling to today, literally. it's freaking cold and sort of snowing. crazy light guy lee's dog is really annoying. i gotta get out of this house. tonight we play at a starbucks in the detroit suburbs and then we head back to music city in the morning. rock on.

last night was the international monsters of powerpop explosion of the tin pan south by southwest overthrow extravaganza. we had a good time. everman brad and i took on david and scott in pool before the set (i can't believe we lost brad), then it was time to rock out east nashville.

regardless of where you stand on the situation in iraq, it is undeniable that lots of work is going to need to be done there. here are a few places to start:

i think it is imperative for both world perception of the u.s. and for any credibility of future missions work in the region that americans give liberally to aid the people of iraq.

this week, gig at the slow bar on wednesday, then off to my home town, detroit rock city (or at least its suburbs). david's wanting to go to canada too, just because it's there. you need a passport now though.

in other music news, this site is great. the liners have one song on the new cd that might make it, but at least we are inconspicuous about it.

my friend, brett james performed at the grand ole opry saturday night. it was cool seeing him on cmt. if you don't know who he is, he's written more of the songs on the country charts than any other writer in the last year and a half. my other friend, lori, sang back up for him. awesome.

hopefully we get the master back this week and ship the album off to be duplicated. we also will be working on new songs for the detroit road trip.

not that anyone really cares, but my favorite musician just launched his first official website. evandando.com is alive and ready for surfing. you can listen to his entire new album and, well... that's about all you can do right now. i'm digging the new stuff. can't wait to get the record. i'm trying to decide if i should take the chance of ordering it over the internet from a foreign store or just waiting until the end of april and buying it in america. i'd hate to buy it online and it get caught up in some prelease redtape and them not even send it until the u.s. release date. wow, this is a all really boring stuff.

in liner news, we've been working on the artwork for our album. the mastering engineer has the tunes so we hope to be hearing from him soon. larry is busting his butt trying to get us another michigan gig. everything keeps falling through. we got asked to play at international pop overthrow in chicago but had to cancel. we have a gig in columbia, south carolina the night before so it was gonna be impossible to make it to chicago in time for our 1PM slot. oh well, maybe next year. that's all i can think of for now. oh, did you people know that scott "tump" carpenter paints? well, he does and some of his artwork will grace the liner notes of our album. cool. and one more thing. larry is also answering to the name of "corndog" these days. just spreading the news.

saturday's acoustic set went well. the basement is such a cool place to play. thanks to the faithful who were there. we tried a new song, all i can do is cry. it has a little nashville influence and i think we all almost started cracking up in the middle of it. oops. the set had it's ups and downs, but mostly ups. my favorite was constellation invitation.

tonight we're actually going to print the mixes of our new album. release time is getting closer!

we're trying to figure out how to get cheryl crow or gwen steffani to sing a duet on some of our new material. it seems like whatever they sing on dominates the charts. kind of like when bill s. preston esquire and ted theodore logan of the wild stallions needed a most excellent video to get eddie van halen to play, but they needed eddie van halen to make a most excellent video. so, for now we're a little stuck. what if gwen and cheryl sang a duet together? i think the world might implode or they might cancel each other out, like they're out of phase or something. hmmm. that could be a really good thing.
