Rock-n-Roll Journal

Monday, January 14

hey, how is everyone doing? did you do anything cool for the holidays? i went to texas and california. i also got a tiny acoustic guitar and three harmonicas from santa claus. pretty cool. went to see joe, marc's brother and the features for new year's eve. they are both great bands but i like JMB better. man, i can't believe it's 2002. time has really been flying by for me lately. the good news is that my mom told me that 2002 is gonna be "the year of the luxury liners." (well, she says that every year but i guess that's her job.)

we're playing our first show of 2002 on march 1st at the basement in nashville. we've never gone this long without a playing a show. it's been a nice break though. besides recording, writing, practicing, and taking pictures... scott has been working with a talking giraffe, i have been quitting side projects, and larry is having a baby! yep, lux liner larry will become a dad sometime around valentines day. we're really excited to finally have a dad in the band. now he'll automatically always have to drive the van on road trips! he'll have to scream at scott and i in the rearview mirror and separate us when we get into fights while playing travel checkers.

we're practicing tonight in my basement. lately we've been jamming on a song that larry wrote and i might play a couple new ones for the guys tonight. basically, when we have a new song, we all learn it and work out parts. then we jam on it and try different things until we like it. sometimes we never end up liking it and the song kinda goes away. it's sad but that's the fate of some songs. they never make it out of the practice room.

one time scott gave me some lyrics to mess around with. i of course put some really dumb music to it and it didn't work out. he gave the same lyrics to another guy and he turned it into a really great song. the guy was lee hester and he has a new album that has just been released. scott wrote several songs on the album and one of his songs was even released as the first single! mass copies of the single were sent to radio stations all over the country. way to go scott!

well, that's all i know for now. i'll see you on the message board and in the comments section of this journal page.
