Rock-n-Roll Journal

the guys came over last night to start work on a new album. yep, we've decided to record an acoustic-ish album at home over the next six months. with that being said, we now must figure out how to record an album at home. i have some gear but haven't really scratched the surface on what it can do and how to operate it. we wasted a couple hours just trying to get a click track started. (we never got it to work.) you should have seen it. all three of us sitting around the computer, flipping through the pages of three different user manuals. wish us luck.

in other news, we're still trying to find a way to release an album of the rock stuff we recorded over the last year. we're getting closer and closer to that being a reality. wish i could say it'd be out by christmas but i don't think that'll happen. regardless, i'm just glad be to making music and getting it out. it really stinks to write and play so much music but only have one album and an ep to show for it. we're working to permanently fix that problem soon!

we had a good time out at the hands on nashville concert. the biscuit boys were great. larry and i got to drive our cars on the baseball field so that was worth it for me. i feel sorry for the outfielders that play at greer stadium. whenever i'd walk on the grass about a zillion mosquitoes would come flying out of the grass at me. talk about west nile fever! i was panicking. i had some new stage moves during our show too. a wasp or something kept trying to land on my guitar while i was playing. my only strategy was to keep my guitar in constant motion. scott flew in about ten minutes before we took the stage so larry and i had the "honor" of hauling around his drums and setting them up for him. geez, i'm glad i'm not a drummer.

the acoustic show was a bunch of fun. we all sat in chairs and it was really relaxed. scott was playing all this weird stuff and i was loving it. i was just listening to him the entire time. we had a nice crowd so thanks to those of you that came to see us. my parents made a surprise appearance and dad dewese snapped some digital that i hope to post soon. it was a freestyle night so we didn't have any matching uniforms on or anything. scott had some sweet puma's on so maybe that's why he was playing so well. i wore a sports coat and larry brought a cold. all of the rock songs from the summer translated well into the acoustic format. the last song was a new one called fallen star. i mentioned how i'd just seen the movie shallow hal and realized that's what fallen star might be about. pretty deep stuff huh? here's the setlist: sunshine, 15 again, it's you, restless, over bored, dreaming, waiting for the sun, just to dream, fallen star. anyways, i got a few specific remarks about the last song so i guess we'll keep on playing it. one guy even asked for my lyric cheat sheet and the chords. the fastball guy played some fastball songs so that was cool to hear. his new stuff seemed to bounce back and forth from cheesy radio country and fastball-ish pop songs. so i guess he's writing his own music but also writing some songs to pitch to country radio. i tried that once, but it was terrible.
